State trademarks have mostly fallen out of use with the rise of the Internet and eCommerce, as by nature any name that is used online is intrinsically visible beyond the boundaries of any state, or even of any country. Even so, if you have no intention to do business across state lines, a State trademark or Common law use signaled by a TM may be adequate for your needs; in fact, strictly speaking, you are not eligible to file for a u.S. trademark unless you intend to do business across state lines.
